SONACA NMF CANADA OF MIRABEL – COMPANY’S SUCCESSFUL UPTURN IN QUEBEC’S AEROSPACE INDUSTRY
Mirabel, April 19, 2007 – Sonaca NMF Canada net earnings amounted to $1,9 million in 2006 compared to a loss of $2,3 million in the previous year. Total revenue reached $35 million, representing an increase of 7% over 2005. These results primarily reflect the growth of orders for the manufacturing of wing panels from the company’s major customers: Bombardier, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Embraer and Israel Aircraft Industries.
Sonaca NMF Canada manufactures wing panels for the regional and business jet markets as well as structural parts for the civil aviation industry. In 2003, the company took full control of assets and commercial contracts from NMF Canada which had filed for bankruptcy protection under the Canadian Bankruptcy and Insolvability Act.
Since the acquisition, Sonaca NMF has obtained new commercial programs, consolidated its operations, restored its financial structure and has secured 230 specialized jobs in Quebec. Other important progresses during 2006 have been made to improve its productivity and to enhance the profitability of its manufacturing programs.
« Sonaca NMF Canada has regained its leadership position in the manufacturing of wing panels. We are very proud of our 2006 financial results which can be attributed to the efficient measures put in place to ensure a profitable direction for the company. These measures also affirm our competitiveness in the aerospace industry worldwide. » according to Philippe Hoste, Chief Executive Officer at Sonaca NMF Canada.
To benefit from the increase in orders in the regional and business jet markets and to meet the growing demand from its existing customers and prospects, Sonaca NMF intends to continue investing to enhance its production capacity at its Mirabel plant.
